Study English in Boston

Boston is an old city and as such, has a long history. Founded in 1630 by the British, it is considered one of the most culturally significant cities in the United States. Headquarters of the 50 university campuses is the city with the highest educational level in the country, because its famous and prestigious universities Harvard and MIT (Massachusetts Technology Institution) are located here. Moving around Boston - Public Transport 

Metro:

The public transport service is managed by the MassachusettsBay Transport Authority. There are four metro lines (blue, green, red and orange). Lines are open Monday to Saturday from 05.00-01.00 and Sundays from 05.20 to 00.45. The metro goes by the name "T". It is the oldest in the United States and is one of the best options for getting around the city. There is a transport card that lets you use the four subway lines and buses for 1, 3 or 7 days unlimited travel. 

Buses

The MBTA also operates 13 commuter rail lines, three boat services and 185 bus routes. Public buses are cheaper and have more stops than the subway, although it is more difficult to find. 
A single ticket costs U.S. $ 1.25 on the train and U.S. $ 0.90 on the bus. 

What to see in Boston - neighbourhoods and city tours 

The city is organised into small and characteristic neighborhoods, perfectly communicated between one another. Therefore, unlike most cities in the United States, it is a pleasure to explore on foot. 

  • The Freedom Trail (Liberty Lane) is a tour commemorating the revolutionary past of the city and the birth of the modern American nation; runs along four kilometers (2.5 miles) through the streets and attractions of Boston. 
  • The Black Heritage Trail: is another tour that focuses on the role of Boston in the anti-slavery history of the United States. 
  • The North End: is the oldest part of the city. It combines the Old World with the New World. Here is the narrowest house in Boston that measures less than 3 meters 
  • Downtown Crossing: pedestrian zone. It is a paradise for people who like to go shopping, with department stores like Macy's Filene'sy. Nearby are areas like Financial District and Chinatown, the third largest Chinese community in the country. 
  • The Boston Common: a huge green space which is as old as the city 
  • Beacon Hill: located north and is historically the center of power and wealth in the city.

At night in Boston

  • Boston is a vibrant city full of bars, pubs and nightclubs. The large student population fills the streets of the city every weekend. The places which have the most students are on the river in Cambridge, near Harvard and MIT. 
  • The official closing time for bars is 02.00. The minimum drinking age is 21 and smoking is prohibited in any establishment in Boston or Cambridge. 
  • The only thing that closes later than 02.00 are the bars that are open 24 hours, nightclubs and restaurants in Chinatown. Under 21´s are allowed in some bars and nightclubs, but this is usually a set night once a week. 
  • In general, the bars open around 11.00. The clubs charge an average of $ 15US per entry,

Preparation course for IELTS/TOEFL

This course is orientated around the preparation of one of the most respected exams in the world. The TOEFL exam is well-known by thousands of universities, institutions and businesses in more than 130 countries, amongst those include the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. The course will prepare the students so that they have the best chance of getting a good grade in the exam.

The North End apartments are the best option from a social point of view. You will be able to enjoy the independent lifestyle and have high quality accommodation at a good price. How to get to Boston

The Boston Logan International Airport is one of the largest in the United States. It is located in the metropolitan area of ​​Boston, Massachusetts 6 km northeast of the city.

From the airport to the city 

  • Trains, buses, metro, water shuttle and taxis connect the airport with the urban area. 
  • Bus: A free shuttle "Massport" stops at every airport terminal in the subway ("T" station), and the water shuttle dock. There are several bus lines which connect the airport with multiple places in Boston. Buses 448, 459 and CT3 go to different parts of the Boston area. 
  • Metro: The Metro provides a service to all points in the centre. 
  • Taxi: Taxi ranks are in all terminals and function 24 hours. 
  • Boat: By sea there is a free bus service, The Water Transportation Bus Service (Route 66), which connects all the airport terminals to the port of Logan and the MBTA station. In the harbour there are catamarans and "taxi" boats that go to Boston Harbour.
