The city of Aberdeen

Located in the north of Scotland, in the Highlands, Aberdeen is the third most important city after Edinburgh and Glasgow.
This charming town has beautiful granite buildings and gardens in bloom silver that make it look like a fairytale village. Aberdeen's beauty is in the contrasts and diversity of its landscapes, composed of two miles of golden sandy beaches, cliffs, harbours, rivers and forests.
Aberdeen, also known as "The Granite City" owes its distinctive appearance to the famous and widely exported building material. The old buildings of the city stand high and deep, creating one of the most beautiful sections of Scotland. The mix of culture, historical tradition and beauty makes it one of the most popular UK destinations.

Getting around the city of Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a city that is easily explored on foot (a quiet walk), weather permitting. Most of the sites are located in the center and in Old Aberdeen. The distances are very short, so even if this is your first time visiting, you  will not have problems finding your bearings.

There is a good transport infrastructure within the city of Aberdeen. The best means of transport are the bus services which run regularly and quickly. There are two bus companies that operate daily and connect all areas of the city.

"First bus company" is the leader with 22 services. It also connects the city center with Aberdeen Airport. There is a bus stop right in front of the school.

Attractions in Aberdeen

  • Provost Skene's House: It was built in the sixteenth century and is a typical Scottish house. It is named after Lord Provost of Aberdeen, who was a very wealthy merchant between 1676 and 1685.
  • Dunnottar Castle: Here, William Shakespeare's Hamlet was filmed.
  • Balmoral Castle: Built in granite, in the summer it hosts the Queen of England.
  • The Aberdeen Maritime Museum shows the fundamental role of the North Sea in the development of the fishery, oil industries and shipbuilding.
  • The Peacock Visual Arts Gallery, contemporary art exhibitions of national and international artists.
  • The Winter Gardens in Duthie Park (South Side). One the most visited places in Scotland. Includes the Japanese Garden and the largest collection of cacti in Britain.
  • Satrosphere in Beach Links, fascinating interactive science museum.
  • The Malt Whisky Trail is scattered in the glens of Speyside picturesque. This route consists of seven distilleries, including Glenfiddich and Strathisla, where Chivas Regal is produced.
  • Aberdeen beach, clean and sandy, extends over almost 4 kilometers
  • The Cairngorms National Park is the largest in Scotland. It is a common destination for hiking, climbing, skiing, mountain biking and fishing.
  • The Gordon Highlanders Museum in West End: an evocative and informative journey through 200 years of Army history.

And at night?

Aberdeen is a university town and has a good atmosphere and lively scene at night. There are plenty of clubs and bars that you can go to.
Blue Lamp in Gallowgate offers live traditional Scottish music while the Prince of Wales pub in the city center, is perfect for having a leisurely pint or a malt whiskey.
Most bars close at 11pm, and the clubs at 2am.

This residence, 10 minutes from the beach, is surrounded by shops, supermarkets, bars, clubs and restaurants, rooms are equipped with tables, bed-side tables, wardrobes, beds, there is a mirror and all doors are locked with a key. The bathroom is private.

Getting  to Aberdeen

Aberdeen Airport is 11 km from the city of Aberdeen.

From the airport to the city:

BUS: A regular bus service operates from the airport to the center of Aberdeen and from the bus station to the airport Guild Street. The service is more common on weekdays than weekends. It is the best and most effective way to travel to and from the airport. A single ticket costs £ 1.30. Journey time is approximately one hour.

TAXI: Taxis are available at the stop is right outside the terminal building. Journey to the center of Aberdeen is about 20 minutes (when no traffic). Taxi may be the best means of transportation to and from the airport, but it is also more expensive than the train or bus. The trip will cost £ 20-30 depending on traffic.

In Edinburgh Airport there is a bus service to Aberdeen railway station. Journey time is approximately 2.5 hours.
